After a few days with Garrett's Great Grandparents in Apache Junction, we took the car rental all the way to Las Vegas. It was about a six hour drive and Garrett again exceeded our expectations. An unplanned bonus on the drive was that our Mapquest driving directions took us right over Hoover Dam which I, Jeff, had never gotten to see before. The drive was pretty good but it was a little unsettling how you could go for 30 minutes in the desert without seeing any signs of civilazation off the freeway (no gas stations, rest stops, etc.). We stayed at the MGM Grand where we had gotten an excellent deal.

We had a lot of fun at the Aladdin shopping area (soon to be Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino). The horse in this picture is several stories high and marks the entrance to the 4-floor FAO Schwartz toy store there. Garrett got a set of wood blocks there that he loves knocking down now. Garrett had his first visit with Santa at Aladdin. He didn't mind the elf girl but the moment his butt hit Santa's lap, his face turned bright red in a buildup to a good cry/scream. We wish we had gotten it on tape. The male server at the Hard Rock Cafe offered twice to borrow Garrett for a little bit so we could eat in peace. After the 2nd time Amy relented since he promised not to take him out of our site. We could see Garrett in the distance flirting with all of the female servers there. Garrett loved all of the flashing lights all over Las Vegas though.
We did find out that we can't keep Garrett with us when we did our few minutes of gambling. Within two minutes of Amy sitting down and me standing nearby with Garrett in his stroller, they were on us like a hawk. "You can't have minors near the gaming," they told me. Never mind the fact that he's a BABY, not a minor who might try to gamble. Oh well, it probably saved us money. I game out ahead by $18 on the first night after winning on roulette. On Amy's last dollar of the trip she tried the dollar slot machines and got three identical 7's. She was pretty excited but confused about why the lights weren't flashing and going off. She found out that you have to bet $2-3 at a time to win on three 7's. She could have won $500 if she had had two more dollars in. Instead she got nothing. Anyway, it was a really fun trip and we all can't wait to see everyone again. Garrett did very well on the return flight too.
